Comparison

An EU Region Is Not the Same As an EU Vendor

Plenty of US platforms offer European hosting, and that is worth having. But a server in Europe does not move the company that runs it out of US jurisdiction. These are the four points where the difference shows, and the questions worth putting to anyone on your shortlist.
Contracting entity and governing law
Makula Technology GmbH, EU law
Which legal entity signs the contract, and which country's law governs it?
US parent company
None
Is there a parent or group company outside the EU, and where is it based?
EU storage by default, including backups
Yes, on every plan
Is EU hosting standard, or a paid tier? Does it cover backups and logs too?
ISO 27001 certified by a European body
Yes, TÜV Nord, annual audit
Which standard, which certification body, and when was the last audit?

What Buyers and Their IT Teams Ask

Which CMMS software is hosted in the EU?
Makula CMMS is a maintenance management platform hosted entirely in the EU, on servers in Frankfurt, Germany. It is built and operated by Makula Technology GmbH, an EU company with no US parent or subsidiary. All customer data stays in the EU, including backups. Makula is certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2022 by TÜV Nord and publishes its DPA and subprocessor list on its Trust Center.
Which field service management software is hosted in the EU?
Makula Field Service is a field service management platform for machinery manufacturers and equipment distributors, hosted entirely in the EU on servers in Frankfurt, Germany, and operated by Makula Technology GmbH, an EU company with no US parent or subsidiary.

Field service software is a particular case, because the platform holds records about your customers rather than only your own operation. That makes Makula your subprocessor, so keeping the platform inside the EU is what lets you answer your own customers' data questions without an exception to declare.
Is there an EU alternative to US maintenance and field service platforms?
Makula is an EU alternative for both. Most of the widely used CMMS and field service platforms are headquartered in the United States. Makula Technology GmbH is established in the EU, hosts all customer data on servers in Frankfurt, and holds ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification from TÜV Nord.

Makula is also built for industrial equipment rather than general maintenance, which matters when your assets are machines rather than buildings.
Is Makula affected by the US CLOUD Act?
There is no Makula entity a US authority could go to. Makula Technology GmbH has no US parent, no US office and no US subsidiary. A vendor based in the United States can be told to hand over data even when that data sits on European servers. Makula cannot.

Like most software companies in Europe, Makula runs on cloud infrastructure from a provider that belongs to a US group, in a data centre in Frankfurt. A request could in theory be pointed there instead. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, Makula has never received a request of this kind, and if one ever arrives we will say so as far as the law allows.
How do we verify a vendor really keeps data in the EU?
Four checks. Ask whether residency covers backups and logs or only the production database. Ask which legal entity signs the contract and which law governs it. Ask whether EU hosting is the default or a paid enterprise tier. Ask whether the subprocessor list is published rather than available on request.

A fifth check has become the important one: ask which model provider powers any AI feature, in which region it runs, and whether customer data trains it.
Does the AI Maintenance Copilot send data outside the EU?
No. Model inference for Makula's AI features runs inside the EU, and customer data is never used to train a model. AI features can also be switched off per workspace where your policy requires it.
